In order to qualify for a Disabled Toll Permit you must have:

A valid driver’s license
An upper limb or dexterity disability that prevents you from tossing coins into a toll booth basket
An adapted vehicle
The permit is valid for five years, and it can be used at manned toll booths throughout the state. Just show the toll booth operator your permit, and you’re good to go. For more information about the Disabled Toll Permit, call (800) 983-2435.

State Park Savings

Additionally, veterans with a service-connected disability can receive a free military entrance pass, good for admission to all Florida State Parks. This lifetime pass is valid for park admission of up to eight people, except at Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife and Weeki Wachee Springs parks, where it’s good for up to two people.

Proof of identification, service-connected disability and honorable discharge are required. Acceptable documentation includes:

Valid driver’s license.
Documentation from Department of Defense or another appropriate agency of service-connected disability.
DD Form 214 showing honorable discharge.
The military entrance pass can only be obtained in person at any Florida State Park. Surviving Spouses and parents of US military members who have died in combat are also eligible for this pass.

Honorably discharged veterans can also receive a 25% discount on individual or family passes. These passes, which are valid for one year, are good for admission to all parks. A valid driver’s license and a DD Form 214 are required to get the discount; and like the military entrance pass, it can only be obtained in person.

And if you don’t qualify for either of those passes, but you plan to visit a number of Florida State Parks, you can still save some money by purchasing an individual or family annual pass. These passes are good for one year and they can be purchased at any state park entrance. The individual pass is priced at $60, while the family pass costs $120.

Crony Capitalism – How Bad Has It Gotten In The US?

We all know the problem of the revolving-door in our political leadership and bureaucracy. Folks are in and out of government, keep their contacts and make a fortune from the known reality: it’s not what you know but whom you know. The problem with all this is exactly what Adam Smith warned us about; the incestuous relationship between government and business. Corporations in the US are large and powerful, and have and hire the best talent, retain and control endless resources – these corporations do not NEED government favors, nor does their executive leadership, they are doing fine.

To secure the most optimum efficiency in our economy, we must keep the free-market as free as possible, when we allow a skew due to political favors or inside information, or allow lobbyists to the run the table, often at the expense of the people all we do is prove the cynics correct that; the game is rigged. Perhaps this is why Donald Trump has promised to; Drain the Swamp. And, he’s human too, I have no doubt he will drain the left-side of the swamp first, but it’s still a good start. The trick is to set a new set of rules, lay down the letter of the law, and move forward.

In Harvard Business Review, December 2013 Issue, there was an interesting article titled; “Unwinding Inequality” and in that article was a quote by Angus Denton; “When people use their success to change the rules in their favor, that success is no longer to be celebrated.”

“Yes,” I say, “Indeed.” But let’s take this argument to a higher level shall we. First, I find it rather hypocritical to read of this in the Harvard Business Review, as most there believe in the concepts of Adam Bellow who wrote the book “In Praise of Nepotism” which might explain why all the Supreme Court Justices went to Ivy Leagues, Harvard or Yale, some both. Worse, look at the academic records of the last 5-presidents of the US, and a darn good many senators, and heads of major bureaucracies, corporations and NGOs.

Second, if we dissect that quote, it talks about “success” and the concept of changing the rules once one, a group or corporation gains in the synergy of their own success. Well, isn’t this really the same challenge with guerrillas or terrorists attacking the status quo, authority and government – if they succeed, they are then in control and then they inevitably seem to use the same so-called tyrannical methods of ruling that their predecessors had before they ousted them – thus, the word “revolution” as it just goes round and round as another group comes along to then unseat their new authority.

Now, one can see a similar process in business and industry. For instance, read;

1. “Rule Makers and Rule Breakers,” by David Garnder
2. “First Break All the Rules,” by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman
3. “The Innovator’s Dilemma: The Revolutionary Book That Will Change the Way You Do Business,” by Clayton M. Christensen

Once the company garners market share synergy, and industry status, it moves to change the sector’s associations to lobby to get the rules and regulations changed to its way of doing things blocking future disruptive competitors from coming along to change the industry just as they had to get to where they are today.

The easiest way to do that is through crony-capitalism, campaign contributions, public-private business partnerships, which also leads to selling goods and/or services to the government and secure a free flow of money to further continue their dominance by playing with the political elite – who all went to Ivy League schools. Thus, I find it so fascinating that HBR (Harvard Business Review) had the gall to even publish that article – due to the obvious hypocritical nature of the norm which comes from that elitist institution. Please consider all this and think on it.

10 Types of Jewelry For Men

When we think of jewelry, we automatically think of jewelry for women. These days it is becoming increasingly common and fashionable for men to wear jewelry. Although much of men’s jewelry serves a purpose, there are many items that have no other purpose than to complement a man’s natural good looks. Read on to discover some obvious (and some not so obvious) jewelry choices for men.

Make a Statement with Men’s Jewelry

1. Watches

Timepieces have been around for a few centuries and serve a useful purpose. Jewelry or machine? Honestly, a watch is really a piece of jewelry that also happens to tell time. This is a way to get men who do not like wearing “jewelry” to actually wear jewelry without knowing it. The type of watch worn has to match the image the man wants to project,: a watch for the executive, a Swatch for the artist, a Nike for the athlete. Since many men have active lifestyles, there are different watches designed for different activities.

2. Rings

The next most common piece of jewelry men wear is a ring. The reason being in just about every culture, rings are worn to symbolize marriage between two people. Rings have been around for ages. Unlike watches, they do not serve a purpose, but when worn on the left ring finger, they do send out a signal about a man’s marital status. Wedding rings used to be made out of just gold or platinum. In fact, it wasn’t until recently that wedding ring designers began to experiment with the idea of using alternative metals. One of the first alternative metals was titanium. The metal was valued for its light weight, white color and strength. It is used for many other types of jewelry, not just rings. Only less than 5 years ago, tungsten carbide – a relatively unknown metal to the general public – suddenly exploded in popularity. It now comprises 20% of all men’s wedding ring sales in North America. Men’s tungsten wedding bands are valued for their extreme hardness. They are four times harder than titanium and have a hefty weight that men like. Tungsten is so hard that only a diamond or sapphire can scratch it. Tungsten is also very affordable. If you want to stick to a precious metal ring, but don’t want to pay through your nose for a gold or platinum ring, palladium may be the way to go. Palladium rings look and act just like platinum because both these metals are from the same family of metals, the Platinum Group Metals. Palladium, however, is about 70% less expensive than platinum rings. Many jewelers only deal with a few select metals.

3. Earring(s)

Traditionally for women, the earring is now accepted by society for men. Some men wear one earring and some wear two. Men that have traditional jobs in an office setting are often discouraged from wearing earrings or not allowed to wear them by company policy. Although, less popular as a man’s gift, earrings are here to stay as men’s jewelry.

4. Bracelets

Although less popular than watches, bracelets are a piece of jewelry many men wear. Men’s bracelets used to be made of heavier and more expensive metals such as gold, but alternative metals are becoming increasingly popular. The variety of materials used for bracelets are more varied than for rings or watches, and many of them are not even metals. There are bracelets made of wooden beads, carbon fiber, and ceramics, as well as stainless steel and titanium. Frequently, they incorporate more than one of the above mentioned materials.

5. Necklaces

Necklaces were worn by more men in the past than today. Men who wear necklaces tend to wear just one. In the past there was a higher tendency to wear multiple necklaces. Multiple necklaces can be viewed as tacky or “slimy” today, and as such many men today avoid wearing multiple necklaces.

6. Pendants

Men have mostly switched from wearing necklaces to wearing pendants. Pendants can be used to show a man’s religious faith or just to express oneself. The most common pendant to wear is the cross, in countless variations, and much like bracelets, pendants which were mostly made of gold in the past are now being made in all kinds of metallic and non-metallic materials. Some men wear pendants in conjunction with necklaces, while others choose to wear their pendants around their neck with a modest black leather cord.

7. Cuff Links

Commonly referred to as men’s accessories, cuff links are actually jewelry that men wear without thinking they’re there just keep shirt cuffs buttoned, right? Cufflinks are most often worn in an office setting where more professional dress is required. They make great Father’s Day gifts or birthday gifts. They are usually made of stainless steel or in some cases titanium. Gold is used, but is less common.

8. Money Clip

Men who like to show they have higher status, or at least the appearance of high status, tend to use money clips. With credit cards beings so ubiquitous, many men do not have cash in their pockets, which defeats the purpose of a money clip. The clip part of the money clip is typically made of stainless steel and if there is a decorative element on the clip it can be made of silver, gold or some other type of material. Money clips are usually given on the same occasions as cuff links.

9. Fountain Pens

Designer fountain pens can cost anywhere from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, and tend to be gifts that companies give to their male and female executives. They can also be given to friends or spouses. In today’s high tech world, writing with pens is less common – even signatures can be electronic now. The fountain pen is becoming more of a piece of jewelry than a functional item.

10. Key Chains

Key chains are a jewelry item used to perform a function more than jewelry. For this reason, few key chains are made of expensive metals. Most are made of stainless steel, leather or titanium. This is a gift that is popular for Father’s Day or birthdays, particularly from a son or daughter.

All You Need To Know About The PTFE Ring Gasket

Gaskets are one of the basic elements for preventing the leakage, mist formation, and spray outs after the flange guards. They are installed at the flange joints, pipelines or valve joints, etc. to prevent the leakage of the harmful gasses and liquids from the gap between the joints. The gaskets are proven to seal the gap between the surfaces of the joints and provide better protection at an affordable price. They bear the high pressure of the high-temperature chemicals and have corrosion resistance properties. They are used in many industries like automotive, aerospace, chemical industries, electronics, military industries, pharmaceuticals and appliances.

The Types Of The Loads That A PTFE Ring Gasket Bear Are As Follows:-

The initial compressive load is the bolt load which pulls the gasket material into surface defects to form a strong seal.
The hydrostatic end force which tends to separate the surfaces of the flange joints when the arrangement is over pressurized.
The internal load pulling the part of the gasket exposed to inner force. It tends to blow the seal out of the joint.
The various metals and materials are used to make gaskets which can meet the demand of various industries. The range covers non-metallic, semi-metallic and metallic gaskets. The industries mostly install PTFE ring gaskets which are made up of a material and provide better performance in the operation.

This type of the gaskets used widely in the chemical industries and pharmaceuticals because it avails numerous benefits, besides acting as the protective seal for the leakage. It reduces friction to provide a rigid usability and avoid any of the damage or failures.

There Are Many Factors That Are Affecting The Performance Of The Gaskets:-

The Flange Load – The pressure on the two surfaces of flange joints churns the product and compresses the gasket to create an even tighter seal. The gaskets are enough tough to bear this load and the bolts of the joints should be tightened enough to create a perfect seal.

Temperature – The high temperature sometimes affects the efficiency of the product, but the gaskets are made of the high-grade material which is actually temperature resistant.

Fluid – The chemicals flowing through the pipelines is highly corrosive in nature and the liquids are harder to sell in comparison to the gas. The PTFE ring gaskets seal the liquid and prevent it from flowing outside. The product also prevents the contamination of the liquid.

Cellular Or Mobile Phones: How Are They Affecting Children And Us?

I am sure you are using one of them, like almost everyone else doe’s including me. As you become aware about some things, most likely you will be making changes the way you use a cellular phone from the information and awareness you be reading about.

There are as many as over 7 billion mobile phone subscriptions worldwide. Continued research to clarify any health risks coming from cell or mobile phones is ongoing. The first thing to come to mind is electronic radiation such as changes to sleep patterns and brain activity. Lots of evidence demonstrates that radiation from cell phones is a real danger.

Many different researches over years have confirmed that long-term exposure to cell phone radiation is a significant risk to health. Such findings of course are strongly denied by the other side of that argument, depending on which side of the argument you listen to. Debates like this have been ongoing for years and most likely will never be settled. After all, why would designers and manufacturers admit to any danger coming from phone usage? This would certainly kill the goose that lays the golden eggs!

The international agency for research, which is part of the world health organization released a statement over five years ago and declared cell phones a class B Carcinogen.

Long Term Exposure: How Long Is Too Long?

Whatever the brand name, I Phone, blackberry, android, tablets, Smartphone’s or just a basic flip phone has revolutionized communication in the 21st century. Some people spend as much as 2 ½ hours or more on the phone daily. Because cell phones are providing an efficient and easy way to communicate, but at the same time this can also take a toll on health.

The possible effect of a long-term heavy use of any mobile phone and the length of each call matters. The amounts of time people use cell phones are important factors which enhance the health related risk. The amount of radio frequency energy from a mobile phone use being released depends on different factors, such as distance from face and ear, the type of phone used, and the distance between cell phone towers.

What these findings are telling us: Make your conversation on a cell phone as short as possible or better still use a hand free device which places more distance between your head and the phone. Turn off the phone when not in use. Use the speaker phone when possible. Keep your phone away from your body as much as you can. Never use your phone while driving or even worse texting; this puts you and others in a potentially dangerous situation.

Children Are More Vulnerable

Children have the potential being at greater risk and affected in different ways. The brain of a child is not fully developed until the age of around 20. This makes any exposure to electronic radiation and radio frequency more dangerous for children than for adults. The other issue which affects a big percentage of children as well as teenagers is eye vision. Looking at mobile screens, what is it doing to kids’ eyes? Almost at any age children love playing with smart phones but what are the long-term effects?

Unfortunately some people are using such gadgets as baby sitters for the children without being aware of the damage it does. Children like to watch things close up on screen which is contributing to spike in becoming short-sighted. Studies have shown there is an alarming increase that affects many children between 10 and 12 years old and the amount has doubled over the last decade. The fact is: The more kids watch things close up on screen, the more they put their eyes in danger.

It is most common for children to develop myopia which gives a blurry long-distance vision. Myopia can also increase the risk of other eye problems in adulthood as well, including cataracts and blindness. However, most of the myopia cases are as young as six and 15 to 18, of course genetics play a role in severity in this.

As a guide, reduce screen time to as little of 2 hours per day from 2 to 5 year olds. There should only be a small increase of time allowed for older ones. Actually in Taiwan, if a child under the age of 2 has been found with a tablet or playing with any cell phone the parents will get a heavy fine.

Children who spent more time outdoors in fresh air and sunshine have a far lower rate of myopia. Limit the screen time, encourage kids to spend more “green time” hours in nature outdoors for better health. Make sure to include a colorful veggie diet from leafy greens which contain lutein, this is known to help eye sight and vision.

In General Common Sense Applies

A cell or mobile phone for most people has been one of the most revolutionary developments in time. It is a great communication tool being able to carry it with you wherever you go. It is a good security and emergency device that can save lives. So, what is wrong with all of those gadgets?

Could it be just the one who is using it creating that problem?

There are too many people going to the extreme and don’t know what is any longer normal or reasonable. That also applies to our food intake, beverages, including alcohol, and tobacco etc. All of those are not, or less harmful if used in moderation. If only used for short time this also can apply to cellar or mobile phones, and can reduce the risk factor as much as eighty percent.

Pros and Cons of Wild Animals As Pets

Many people find the idea of having wildlife as pet as exotic and exciting. However, if you want a wild animal as a pet, you should have thorough understanding of the animal and its behavior and needs. The people who have these animals as pets are invariably trained to handle them, but even they will tell how unpredictable these animals can be. You may have read stories in the newspaper of zoo keepers being mauled by their wards.

So, having wild animals as pets has become quite a sensitive and controversial issue. Some people like to highlight the pros, while others just point out the cons. However, both should be weighed equally and only then a decision should be taken to keep a wild animal as a pet.

Here are some pros and cons of wildlife as pets.

Sometimes, conventional pets like dogs and cats can not be kept due to lack of space. In such circumstances, one can keep a wildlife like a hedgehog or gecko as a pet as they do not require that much space. Some wild animals have their own benefits. Like a hedgehog can be used to keep insects and others pests at bay in a house.

Often it has been seen purchasing a wild animal can be cheaper than purchasing a pet that is popular and has a pedigree.

Also, many proponents of wild animals feel that some species have a better chance of survival if they are adopted. It has been seen that the dart frog is facing a problem in the wild as its natural habitat is diminishing. Here, if this animal is adopted, it will have a better chance of survival.

However, there are sufficient cons and disadvantages of owning wild animals as pets. First of all, one has to take into consideration the welfare of the animal. Having a wildlife means giving due consideration to its diet, exercise and social interactions. Often, the animal will not have any interaction with other animals of its own species and will be left to lead a lonely and solitary life. Also, the owners will not be equipped to provide proper care to the animals as they may not be well-versed in these things. Many wild animals look cute and cuddly when they are small. However, as they reach adulthood or sexual maturity, their wild side takes over and the animal becomes aggressive. This is the time many owners abandon their pets or give them away to zoos.

Wild animals are carriers of many diseases that are lethal to humans. For instance, reptiles and amphibians are carriers of salmonella infection and each year thousands of people in the US contract this disease due to their pets. Also, rats imported from Africa are known to carriers of monkey pox. An outbreak of this disease occurred in the US in 2003 when Gambian rats bought in the monkey pox into the country.

Above all, the demand for wildlife as pet is increasing. So, many illegal traders are taking advantage of this demand. Most of the wild animals are captured and then transported in cruel and inhuman manner to reach their owners. In addition, majority of the owners do not know to take care of the animals and this causes them to fall sick or even die.

So, weigh the pros and cons of having wild animals as pets before jumping to adopt one. Make sure that you are properly equipped to handle the care of the animal. Do not adopt one if you have any doubts.

The Meaning Of Quality In Health Care

The process of receiving health care services at the correct time in the appropriate way and to get the best possible outcome is defined as quality health care.

Six attributes of health care quality

• Safety – Care should not harm any patient.

• Patient centered – Individual needs should be taken care of when providing care.

• Timely – Care should be provided exactly on time.

• Effective – Care must be based on evidence.

• Efficient – Wastage of time should be reduced.

• Equitable – Equal care should be provided to every patient.

What is quality health care?

The meaning of quality health care is not the same for all people. According to some patients, quality care is to consult a doctor, to get proper treatment from the staffs of a hospital and to have a physician who can spend much time with the patient. But all these things are secondary. Clinical quality of care is the most important thing because more lives can be saved by providing evidence-based and high quality care.

Does quality equal safety?

Yes, quality equals safety. The quality of care is to be improved by the health care providers because it can save more lives of the patients.

How is health care quality measured?

Outcome indicators and process indicators are the two ways of measuring quality of care. Timelines and baseline practices are measured by process indicators. Complication rates, mortality rates and infection rates are measured by outcome indicators.

These indicators can be looked at by the consumer to compare the hospitals. National accreditations, recognitions and state of the hospital should also be looked at by you to measure quality.

What are quality measures and quality indicators?

The process of converting the medical information of a patient into percentage or rate to analyze the quality of care provided by the hospitals to their patients is called a quality measure. You will be given information by quality measures about how the patients are provided care by the hospital. This quality information can be used by you to compare the quality care of different hospitals.

What role do nurses and doctors play?

A very important role is played by the doctors and nurses. Quality care should be provided by all the nurses and physicians, clinically and satisfactorily. All the staffs in a hospital such as the receptionist, scrub nurse, hospital administrator, physician and the X-ray technician are responsible in providing quality care to all the patients.

Remember all these features when you will go to get quality health care from any hospital.
